5/5/2017 Across the Ocean - Sail It OutCh. 1 - Sail Shirt Stories 12/24/2020
Jack looked at his watch. It was half past three - if a cold wind starts to blow, I am ready now -The song played on the radio – He had heard it many times before…Jack had two daughters, Michaela and Liana, and one son, Robert. His front door carried a welcome sign; “The Saleminks.” He lived off the East of Quebec in a small town called Riviere du Loup.He had just finished talking on the phone with his daughter, Liana, who was getting married in toan African Man in under two months. He’d be able to take his boat for a trip and save airfare at the same time. “Two birds with one stone. He was already packed. On his way to the boat he admired the beautiful red, yellow and black painting job he had finished that summer. On the boat, the Meridian, Jack took one last look at his Quebec, Riviere du Loup home and undocked into the river and sea.Ch. 2 A few hours later after following the coastline, he had left the Newfoundland Channel and Canada's continent and the Island off its coast.-Newfoundland- Jack thought. They called it Newfoundland because it was a Newfoundland. The settlers of Canada from England obviously didn’t want to be too creative. After another two hours, he had reached it, Newfoundland - On the coast of Red Bay. He would continue on to Goose Cave and then the 20 day trip to the other side of the world, to Africa, perhaps a bit longer or shorter depending on the weather. He decided as it would be a few more hours to Prince Edward Island, to stop and get a bite to eat. And so he did, and it was great. It was great to see the old houses of Newfoundland. The Houses were so colourful, Jack thought.
Ch. 3 After eating in the city there, hours passed away. Night had arrived. Jack decided to sleep on his boat, rather than scramble and pay for a hotel.Ch. 4 - The Next Day Onto the oceans Jack thought when he wakes up. He looked up at the sky. Jack took out his cellphone - Highs in the Skies - it reported, he’d better hurry.Hours passed so quickly he rarely thought he had been from land for 4 hours. He was exhausted, up and down with the mass and the sun in his eyes the whole time. The night was arriving, he would settle in a dock outside the Strait of Belle Island. The next day he would really be tested as he would have to sail across the ocean and sleep in his boat, while waves would be rolling around hard.Ch. 5 - The Ocean Hours into sailing, -Hmm... where am I? – he thought. He realized that his phone had GPS,fiddling with it. He could check his location.49 degrees north longitude, 44 degrees west latitude. Wow… he had travelled far in his first day... Jack decided to throw anchor and sleep now.Into the Cabin he cooked up some noodles and sausage. There was no TV, radio, Internet..Nothing, Jack thought. So he spent his evening looking at pictures of his kids. He couldn’t wait to see Liana, and meet the man who would marry her. Then he read and spent some time playing music off of CDs.He looked through the movies he had bought which he could watch maybe the next night before rest. He had a very famous one with Clint Eastwood.Ch. 6 - Next Few Days The second day was rather uneventful, except for the waves, the beaming Sun and the music he listened to off and on.Sleeping was on schedule after the movie with Clint Eastwood, the Good the Bad and the Ugly.Jack kept monitoring his location with his GPS. He kept hoping to see some animals in the ocean, unfortunately not.Jack started to tip down under the equator. He was more than halfway there, and soon he would be arriving off the African coast to go to the Sahara and see his daughter get married.
The next week was rough. The first day of the week, he lost mass and had to get his mask out of the water and reset it. The next day there was no wind. And then the next day he went to farsouth.Halfway through the week, Jack decided to write down some thoughts, and make a journal.Maybe he could be famous, Jack thought.Ch. 7 - Africa He could see it now, the 21st day of sailing, Jack saw coastline. He took out his GPS which is low on battery and asked it where he was. 4 degrees latitude, 9 degrees longitude. He Looked at his map, he’d arrived at Liberia! He ate some of the local cuisine. He had a stew-like meal of roast beef served with melted butter and palaver sauce, meat stew, country chop and finished it with rice bread and sweet potato for dessert. He was very much impressed with their interpretations of ginger beef.Ch. 8 - Leaving On the way back from the restaurant, Jack spotted a group around his boat. He decided after looking at the menacing group of individuals to sneak back onto the boat.Down the coast he went, and then jumping into the water along the perimeter of the beach. He Followed a rectangular perimeter going 50 or so metres into the water and then following the coast back towards the boat until it was 90 degrees from where he looked down further.Swimming more and more he could see the ladder on the port side of the Meridian. Less than 10 metres left. He decided to go under water closer and closer to the dock, and surface under his boat, and climb the ladder and then quickly undock without them seeing him. He held his breath for around 10 seconds surfacing very close to where he intended.-Up the ladder- he thought.5 minutes later he was sailing away as the pirates looked dumbfounded, somehow they had loss a boat and also a rich owner of a boat. One of them through his machete into the dock.Ch. 9 - Made it Time passed quickly, heading north as Jack enjoyed the air of the ocean, and African coastline air.He made it - he thought.
Up to the hotel and into the arms of his daughter. He had done it. He had travelled the ocean on his own and 2 days from now, his youngest daughter would be married and live happily ever after.
